How many NLUs accept CLAT scores?

More than 24 National Law Universities (NLUs) across India accept CLAT scores for admission to their integrated law (BA LLB) and postgraduate (LLM) programs. The current list of participating NLUs is published on the Consortium website. Many private universities and public sector organizations also consider CLAT scores for admissions and recruitment.

CLAT 2027 will be conducted in offline mode (pen-and-paper test). Candidates must mark their answers on an OMR sheet.

What is the eligibility for CLAT UG 2027?

Students must have passed Class 12 or equivalent with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST). Those appearing for their Class 12 exams in 2027 are also eligible to apply.

Is there an age limit for CLAT?

No. There is no upper age limit for CLAT UG or PG. Candidates of any age who meet the educational requirement can apply.

What subjects are covered in CLAT UG?

The CLAT UG exam tests candidates in English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.

The paper consists of 120 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) to be completed in 2 hours. Each correct answer carries 1 mark, while 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong response. The Consortium has confirmed there is no change in the syllabus or exam pattern for CLAT 2027.

Is prior knowledge of law required for CLAT UG?

No. The Legal Reasoning section is passage-based. It tests your ability to apply the principles given in a passage to a set of facts, not memorized legal knowledge.

Are there sectional cut-offs in CLAT?

No. Merit lists are prepared on the basis of the total score across all sections.

How are ties broken in the CLAT merit list?

If two candidates have the same total score, the candidate with the higher score in Legal Reasoning is ranked higher. If they are still tied, the older candidate is ranked higher, and after that the tie is broken by a draw of lots.

How do I apply for CLAT?

Applications are accepted online only through the Consortium website. Register with your mobile number and email, fill in your details, upload your photograph and signature, choose your exam centre preferences, and pay the application fee online.

What is the CLAT application fee?

For CLAT 2026, the application fee was ₹4,000 for General/OBC/PwD candidates and ₹3,500 for SC/ST/BPL candidates. The fee is non-refundable. Please check the CLAT 2027 brochure for the current fee.
